Foundation Phase

From the first excavator pulling down the driveway to the last concrete pour and waterproofing stickers, this phase started in May 2019 in one of the wettest June and July months ever on record.

When not splashing in the mud though or getting rained out, we started to see the design transform into the most important aspect of a house little by little.

Groundbreaking Ceremony

The house needs to take the shape of the land it sits on. After the purchase of one lot fell through, we had to make some design adjustments when we found this 1.1 acre walkout lot overlooking wetlands. With permits in place and frost out of the ground, we excitedly conducted this fun groundbreaking ceremony to kick off the project.

Fox Blocks ICF

These blocks do double duty by acting as concrete forms and insulation. They form easily and quickly without the need to strip them off. They have built-in furring strips allowing the drywall to be fastened.

Heavy Equipment

This phase relied heavily on equipment such as an excavator, forklift, bobcat, and concrete trucks to get the job done.

God’s Answer to Suffering

The Bible speaks often of building and these verses spoke to us in new ways during the construction process. This verse from Job 38:4-7 was etched forever in the foundation.

Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand.
Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! Who stretched a measuring line across it?
On what were its footings set, or who laid its cornerstone—
while the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy?
